New article on memory politics and tour guiding now published in “History and Anthropology”

Simon Schlegel and Alena Pfoser have just published an article on tour guiding in Kyiv in History and Anthropology . The article, entitled “Uncovering disciplined pasts: Tour guiding through Kyiv’s changing place names”, examines practices of tour guiding in Kyiv in the context of an ideologically disciplined commemorative culture. Responding to calls for more critical engagement with changing place names, it shows how tour guides use ideologically altered place names to walk the fine line between entertaining their guests and positioning themselves in memory debates.
